PANIC gripped attendees of Maasai Mara University’s third graduation ceremony yesterday when Narok Deputy Governor Evalyn Aruasa fainted while addressing graduands.
Aruasa, who was reading Governor Samuel Tunai’s speech, fell silent after reading two paragraphs, dropped the microphone and collapsed.
Security officers led by county commander Abdi Galgalo and her bodyguard took her to an ambulance.
She was rushed to Maasai Mara University clinic before being transferred to the Nairobi Hospital.
Sources said she is in stable condition.
The cause of her collapse was not disclosed.
Present during the ceremony was university chancellor Prof Phillip Ngunjiri, vice chancellor Prof Mary Walingo and former Heritage minister William ole Ntimama.
Later, the function resumed.
Ngunjiri asked the government to increase support for physical facilities to enable students have practical experience, not just theoretical.
He said plans are underway to build a health faculty to offer courses in medicine.
Some 748 graduated with degrees and diplomas.
